It is almost five years since 35 North Contemporary Fine Art first opened its doors so it is fitting that our anniversary exhibition should feature the work of John Whiting, the first artist to exhibit!
John never travels anywhere without three things, a hat (obviously), a pen and a sketchbook. Over the years many pages have been filled with quick sketches and observations, recording places visited and people watched, as brief descriptions or vignettes. The sketches, together with photographs, often form the inspiration and base material for developing paintings in the studio.
Vignettes is an exhibition of pen line and ink wash drawings taken from the pages of these sketchbooks. The drawings explore different techniques including fineline ink pens, nib pens and brushes, monochrome and coloured inks rendered in linework, washes, finger smudges and scribbles.
Please join us for the Private View of Vignettes on Friday 9th August, 6 – 8pm. 35 North Contemporary Fine Art, Brighton, BN1 1YB.
Vignettes runs from Saturday 10th August – Saturday 21st September 2019. The gallery is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday 11am – 5.30pm or by appointment. For further information please contact Sharon Whiting on 07792 058039
